OUR TIME WILL COME (2017): Review by Jan Lisa Huttner

This will be a review by someone -- Jan Lisa Huttner -- who does not speak Chinese. For a review from a complementary POV, click HERE for review by Peier Tracy Shen (coming soon).

New film by Ann Hui about Chinese resistance to Japanese occupation during WWII.

Zhou Xun stars as "Fang Lan," an elementary schoolteacher in her mid 20s who becomes a critical member of a Hong Kong guerilla group.

Unfortunately the screener I received from the distributor (China Lion) was corrupt, so I could not watch the whole film. However, based on my love for Ann Hui's two prior films A Simple Life and The Golden Era, I am eager to see Our Time Will Come tonight on the big screen. So come back to this page for more details tomorrow!

Here is the list of places in the USA & Canada where Our Time Will Come is opening today including Boston, Chicago, Cupertino/San Jose, Dallas, DC, Houston, Irvine, LA, Montreal, NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, & Vancouver. YOWZA 🙂

Also, please note that Ann Hui was one of the 17 new women directors added to the Directors Branch of AMPAS -- the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences -- last month. Hooray 🙂

Q: Does Our Time Will Come pass the Bechdel-Wallace Test?
