Intern Dayna Hagewood

Dayna is currently a student at Rutgers University studying English and Cinema Studies, with a concentration in Creative Writing. She is particularly interested in the methods by which artists of all calibers articulate their thoughts through their mediums.

Though Dayna was originally planning on becoming a novelist, her introduction to film has changed her plans and goals quite significantly. She believes that film and writing are intimately related and that many of the same techniques and intentions can be conveyed through either form, and are especially powerful when combined. Her favorite films and novels are innovative, technically creative, and leave a lasting impact, long after the book has been closed or the credits have rolled.

She is extremely excited to work with FF2 Media, both because she believes that women filmmakers are unfairly underrepresented and because this opportunity combines her interests perfectly. She is passionate about playing a role in promoting films made by those whose voices have been squelched by an industry that doesn’t normally carve out a space for them. As a female artist herself, Dayna is particularly invested in supporting other women who create and attempt to project something greater than themselves.

In addition to her work with FF2 Media, Dayna is also currently working with the Rutgers University Press and Passion River Films. In her spare time, she writes her own poetry and lyric essays, paying specific attention to the grammatical and sentence level structure that impacts the way a piece is read. She also spends her time promoting local music and booking small shows in the New Brunswick community. Dayna enjoys small notebooks, going to the food store, the French New Wave, and hedgehogs. She looks forward to growing with FF2 Media, and she is always looking for her next favorite film.

Dayna loves working with FF2 Media because writing about film harmonizes her greatest interests and allows her to participate in showcasing women artists doing amazing work. As a writer, film buff, and avid cross-stitcher, Dayna appreciates that FF2 carves out a space for women artists in an industry so unwilling to lend one to marginalized groups. She is proud to aid in creating and facilitating that necessary space.
