Female Directors Make History in the 2021 Golden Globe Nominations

It’s shaping up to be an amazing week for female filmmakers. The Golden Globes have just announced their nominees, and for the first time in history, three out of five nominees for best director are women! Not only is this the first time a majority of the directors are women, this is also the first time more than one woman has been nominated in a single year at all.

The three nominees are:

  • Emerald Fennell – Promising Young Woman
  • Regina King – One Night in Miami
  • Chloé Zhao – Nomadland

Not to mention, two out of three of these – King and Zhao – are women of color. We are so thrilled to celebrate these steps forward and to see how quickly awards shows are evolving to better reflect the incredible community of artists around us.
