Ceramicist Ruth Ehrenkrantz: Speeding Into Her Third Career

Ruth Ehrenkrantz’s Raku ceramics remind me of some of the finest work I’ve seen in Japan (the place where the Raku technique began). 

Raku is a process in which pottery is fired at under two thousand degrees (a low temperature for ceramics). While the pottery is still red hot, it is moved to a closed container filled with combustible materials, such as paper or sawdust.read more.

Diné (Navajo) artist Melanie Yazzie’s multimedia collages in the group exhibition, agriCULTURE: Art Inspired by the Land, at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art (BMoCA), evoke an imaginary world whose story has been told via an ancient-seeming pictographic language.

The backgrounds of Yazzie’s panels are mostly dark and gestural, providing a dynamic setting for the combined objects, textures, and materials.read more.
